Infrastructure Construction

An infrastructure expansion project in the GTA region of Ontario involved the transportation and stockpiling of a variety of native soils and aggregate materials. Beginning in June 2023, two ESI stations on the upwind and downwind borders of the site monitored dust emissions (PM 2.5 and PM 10.0) from these activities, and were equipped with alert systems which sent exceedance notifications to project stakeholders. The stakeholders had access to a user-friendly dashboard showing graphs of real time data at a frequency and concentration criteria specified by the client. These  graphs were also designed for use in regulatory compliance reports. When coupled with wind measurements, the data allowed the client to separate the effects of material movement on-site from off-site issues, including PM resulting from forest fire smoke which periodically moved into the area.
